CANACONA: Congress and BJP are engaged in a fierce and unprecedented campaign, leaving the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) way behind in terms of direct contact with the electorate in Canacona for the South-Goa Parliamentary Seat.
While Congressmen along with its I.N.D.I. Alliance partners coming together are on a person-to-person contact spree all over the Canacona constituency, BJP with its top leaders relegating themselves to holding corner- meetings, has banked on its grass-root leadership (booth-level leaders) and Karyakarta’s to remain in touch with their neighbouring electorate.
For Congress-led INDIA candidate Capt Viriato Fernandes, it’s a good sign that all-in-all in know-how have come together and moved around as a well-oiled machine to distribute the congress manifesto in the constituency.
Beginning Monday, it was a reckoning day for the INDIA alliance in Canacona as last assemble elections congress candidate Janardhan Bhandari, TMC candidate Mahadev Dessai, some main representatives and activists of at least two main Independent Candidates in Canacona joined the INDI Alliance and moved around vibrantly distributing and explaining congress manifesto to the electorate of Palolem and around.
Canacona Congress Blokc president Abel Tome Borges, South-Goa (Congress) General Secretary Gaspar Coutinho, Congress Mahila President Ursila, Congress Youth President and several others were seen going around and not only handing over the Congress manifesto but also explaining the details as to what INDIA alliance when comes to power will do to the people and youth and women in particular.
‘It was a massive response for congress candidate Viriato Fernandes in Canacona. In fact, people are extending wholehearted support to the INDIA Alliance as the only choice of the people at the Centre’, informed Gaspar Coutinho.
‘Braving the scorching heat, We as alliance partners, leaders, booth coordinators and leading hands amongst the community, have contacted and are contacting every voter, calling on them to vote for Capt Viriato’, stated Janardhan Bhandari.
Mahadev Dessai, who contacted the last assembly elections on the Trinamool ticket has extended his support and is personally roaming around with the congress manifesto requesting the electorate to vote for Congress ‘Hand’.
Meanwhile, led by Canacona INDIA campaign in charge Gaspar Coutinho, along with Canacona congress block candidate Abel Borges, congress leader Janardhan Bhandari, Goa Forward Party Environment Cell Chief and INDIA Spokesperson Vikas Bhagat held a series of corner meetings at Loliem, Gaondongrim, Khotigao, besides met local and Community leaders seeking votes for Capt Viriato.
With the Canacona MLA/GLA Speaker BJP’s Ramesh Tawadkar being a star campaigner of the party BJP’s Sarvanand Bhagat campaigning at the state level, the BJPs campaign revolving around Canaocna is handled by its Mandal Adhyaks Vishal Dessai. Vishal, with the active involvement of Mahesh Naik, and other prime local leaders and Karyakarta has been actively contacting people. Karyakartas and booth-level leaders regularly keep in contact with the electorate, and it is learnt that each of the booth leaders is given the responsibility of a certain number of voters in a particular area. Canacona MLA Tawadkar, however, not to leave to any chance, chairs corner meetings especially in some important and vulnerable areas including the favourable areas.
