New Delhi: In a major relief ahead of the new football season, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has officially lifted the transfer ban on Mohun Bagan Super Giant, clearing the path for the iconic club to sign players during the ongoing window.
The ban, originally imposed on May 5, stemmed from the club’s non-payment of dues to Australian striker Jason Cummings’ former club, Central Coast Mariners. However, prompt and meticulous action by Mohun Bagan helped resolve the matter swiftly, setting them apart from similar cases that dragged on for months.
A club official revealed that Mohun Bagan submitted a detailed 107-page document in response to FIFA’s concerns and subsequently addressed two follow-up queries raised by the governing body.
“Mohun Bagan submitted a 107-page document to FIFA and thereafter there were two queries, and finally the disciplinary committee has sent a mail lifting the ban,” said an official of Mohun Bagan Super Giant to PTI.
In contrast to Mumbai City FC, which took nearly three months to get a similar FIFA transfer ban revoked, Mohun Bagan’s issue was resolved in less than a month—a testament to the club’s urgency and administrative efficiency.
The Indian transfer window, which opened on June 9, now allows Mohun Bagan to move forward with its squad-building process for the upcoming season without any hindrance.
The development comes on the heels of administrative changes within the club. Just days ago, Debasish Dutta assumed office as the new President, and Srinjoy Bose took charge as General Secretary, ushering in a new leadership era.
With the ban lifted, fans can expect the club to be active in the transfer market—especially as they look to build a formidable team for domestic and continental campaigns.
The lifting of the ban marks a positive turn of events for Mohun Bagan Super Giant, which can now focus entirely on strengthening its squad and preparing for a competitive and ambitious season ahead.
