AGASSAIM: Following an attack on three college students at the Cujira complex on Wednesday morning, in which one of the accused even brandished a knife, the Agassaim police detained three people for attempted murder.
The dramatic incident happened during the mid-morning school break when Adeil Fernandes was the target of Xavier Joshua, Shoaib Beig, and Zaqaullah Qazi. Evidently carrying a knife, Qazi allegedly meant to hurt Fernandes. Three other college students were hurt while trying to save Fernandes.
Speaking to the media about the incident, SDPO Sudesh Naik claimed that Joshua and Fernandes, two local football players from St Cruz, got into an argument the night before. Joshua asked Fernandes to approach the college campus the following day, after the altercation had continued into the next day.
Along with the other attackers, Qazi, a 19-year-old driver, brandished the knife, and some bystanders recorded it on camera. An FIR was filed after the video went viral on social media.
The suspects who fled the scene shortly after were located and taken into custody in Ponda.
Regular police vigilance is frequently maintained at the campus, according to SDPO Naik. “Our patrolling units are regularly on hand when students arrive in the morning and depart in the afternoon… A police outpost is also located nearby,” he continued.
Under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) in conjunction with Section 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, the Agassaim police have filed a formal complaint.
