Mormugao: Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, on Tuesday inaugurated a series of key infrastructure projects at Mormugao Port, Goa, marking a significant milestone in India’s maritime and green energy initiatives.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of Governor of Goa, Shri P. S. Sreedharan Pillai, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shri Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Shantanu Thakur, and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade.
Among the major projects dedicated to the nation were:
* 3 MW Solar Power Plant – Enabling the port to meet 100% of its energy needs while reducing annual carbon emissions by 3,800 tonnes.
* Two Harbour Mobile Cranes at Berths 10 & 11 – Commissioned under a ₹100 crore Public-Private Partnership with Delta Ports to enhance cargo handling efficiency.
* Covered Dome for Coal Handling – A ₹160 crore world-class facility with advanced dust control systems and storage capacity of 2 lakh metric tonnes.
* ‘HaritShrey’ Green Shipping Incentives – Launching India’s first sustainable maritime incentive scheme at Mormugao Port.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, addressing the gathering, said Goa is witnessing rapid infrastructure development under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He highlighted that the Mormugao Port has undergone transformative connectivity enhancements including the four-laning of NH-366, double railway tracking, development of Multi-Modal Logistics Parks, and comprehensive digitization as part of the Maritime India Vision 2030.
“These initiatives will significantly contribute to the realization of Swayampurna and Viksit Goa, aligning with the national goal of building an Atmanirbhar Bharat,” Dr. Sawant stated.
The inauguration marks a proud day for Goa and reinforces India’s commitment to building green, modern, and self-reliant port infrastructure.
