TUEM: The Government Hospital and Research Centre at Tuem, linked to Goa Medical College (GMC), was inaugurated today by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant. The inauguration was attended by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, MLAs Jit Arolkar and Pravin Arlekar.
Constructed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) at a cost of Rs. 85 crore, the new hospital building is a ground plus one structure with a capacity of 100 beds.
Currently, the hospital offers services in medicines, orthopedics, dental care, and X-ray. Operating Theatres (OTs) are expected to start within four to six months, with departments coordinating to ensure readiness. Advertisements for consultant positions have already been issued, and doctors have begun joining and being deployed to Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs).
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant urged qualified doctors to join the Directorate of Health Services on a consultant basis to strengthen healthcare in Pernem. He also announced that a medical college will be established under the hospital’s jurisdiction to further boost healthcare and education in the region.
The hospital is set to function as a District Hospital, on par with North District Hospital, said Health Minister Vishwajit Rane. He added, “I was the one who asked Pramod Sawant to resign and join politics. I have contributed to his political career.”
Additionally, the AYUSH Hospital in Goa continues to serve more than 800 patients daily, including those from Maharashtra, offering OT facilities, X-ray and CT scan services, trained technicians, and Ayurvedic doctors, with free treatment available to patients.
The Tuem facility marks a significant step forward in strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Pernem and surrounding areas, promising better access to advanced medical care for Goans.
