PANAJI: Goa government announced that landlords who disregard the tenant verification rules starting on December 1, 2024, will be subject to a fine of Rs 10,000.
According to the announcement from the Home Department, the Goa (Verification of Tenants) Act, 2024’s provisions would take effect on December 1, 2024.
In July, the Cabinet passed the Goa (Verification of Tenants) Bill, 2024, which was then presented to the Legislative Assembly during the monsoon session.
To find residents without the required paperwork, the government extended its tenant verification effort by around one week in October.
As part of the ongoing verification exercise, the police in Goa have validated around 2 lakh tenants.
In light of recent instances of major crimes committed by migrants, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had emphasized the significance of tenant verification.
He explained that the program will improve security for both residents and guests and advised landlords to submit tenant details as soon as possible to ensure compliance and avoid penalties.
