Calangute: A 64-year-old woman from Finland was found dead in her room at a guest house in Maddowaddo, Calangute, late on Monday night.
According to police, the incident came to light around 11:10 pm when Pink Force-2 staff received a PCR call reporting that a woman was lying unconscious inside a locked room at the guest house. Upon enquiry, the guest house owner, Janet D’Costa, informed police that she had received a call from Satu, another foreign national, stating that Merja Marita Salminen, the deceased, had collapsed on the floor.
The owner, along with her friends, rushed to the premises and, in the presence of police, broke open the door, which was locked from inside. A 108 emergency medical team was called to the site and declared Merja Marita Salminen, a resident of Maddowaddo, Calangute, and native of Helsinki, Finland, dead on the spot.
The body has been sent to the GMC Morgue, Bambolim, for preservation and medico-legal examination. The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Panaji, has been requested to inform the Finnish Embassy to contact the family members of the deceased.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Dinesh V. Kanolkar of Calangute Police Station.
