ANJUNA: Acting on a complaint lodged by the attorney of the Anjuna Communidade, Mapusa Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Yeshwant Sawant and Minakshi Y. Sawant for allegedly grabbing Communidade land measuring approximately 2 lakh square metres through fraudulent means.
According to the complaint, the accused duo is alleged to have forged land ownership documents and falsely presented them as genuine before the competent authority in order to illegally transfer property rights in their favour.
The land in question falls under the jurisdiction of the Anjuna Communidade, which governs and manages community land under the traditional land tenure system in Goa.
The complainant, representing the Anjuna Communidade, alleged that the forgery was deliberate and part of a larger scheme to unlawfully usurp high-value Communidade land. Based on the complaint, Mapusa police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges related to forgery, criminal conspiracy, and cheating.
The police have initiated further investigation into the case, and sources indicate that records submitted before the authorities are being scrutinized for authenticity.
This case has raised fresh concerns about the vulnerability of Communidade lands across Goa, which have historically been targets for illegal encroachments, document manipulation, and fraudulent transfers.
Officials from the Communidade system have reiterated the need for tighter safeguards, digital land record verification, and quicker legal recourse to protect community lands from such fraudulent activities.
