Prayagraj:
In a swift and coordinated response, firefighters rushed to Sector 18 of the Maha Kumbh Nagar area in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, after a fire broke out at a camp near Tulsi Chauraha on Old GT Road. This incident marks the second fire in the area within a week, following a previous blaze at the Chatnag Ghat area. The fire comes on the heels of a tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh on January 29, which resulted in 30 deaths and 60 injuries.
The fire, which occurred on Friday, was quickly brought under control by multiple fire engines that arrived at the scene. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported from this incident. Inspector Yogesh Chaturvedi of Khak Chowk police station confirmed that the blaze was largely contained, thanks to the prompt action of the firefighters.
This is not the first fire incident at the Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13 and will continue until February 26. Last week, a fire in the Chatnag Ghat area gutted 15 tents, although no lives were lost in that incident either. The tents involved in the previous fire were later found to be unauthorized.
The Maha Kumbh Mela has seen significant attendance, with over 397.4 million people taking a holy dip in the sacred confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also participated in the sacred dip on Wednesday.
The recent stampede on January 29, which claimed 30 lives and injured 60 others, has led to a judicial inquiry ordered by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The UP government has announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the families of those who died in the stampede.
As the Maha Kumbh continues, the remaining significant ‘snan’ dates are February 12 (Maghi Purnima) and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri), with authorities remaining vigilant to ensure the safety and well-being of the vast number of pilgrims.
