PERNEM: In the early hours at Ashwem, near the Ajoba temple in Keri, a fire broke out at the Tan Sand Resort, causing substantial damage and financial losses.
The incident, which occurred due to a short circuit, resulted in the destruction of two generators and one transformer.
According to fire officials, the fire was triggered when a generator was started due to a power outage, but it was not disconnected once the power supply returned.
This oversight led to a short circuit, igniting the fire. Local residents and fire officers swiftly responded to the incident, managing to bring the flames under control.
The Pernem fire officer and electricity department staff, along with mandrem police, were promptly on the scene to handle the situation.
Fortunately, there were no human injuries reported. However, the estimated loss from the fire is approximately Rs 30 lakhs.
Fire officials noted that although the resort had fire hydrants, they were inoperable due to the short circuit, which prevented the pump from functioning. The swift action of the local people and fire officers averted further damage.
