PANAJI: A short circuit has been suspected as the origin of the fire that occurred Thursday in the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration’s (FDA) Microbiology Department in Bambolim.
“We called the Fire and Emergency Services when we noticed smoke coming from the windows, and all 62 employees were instructed to leave the laboratory by that time,” FDA Director Sweta Desai stated.
The fire were discovered in a room equipped with advanced technology used for microanalysis and food testing. Only two rooms were filled with smoke, so we’ll have to evaluate how much damage has been done,” she said.
Fire Officer Shripad Gawas stated: “We hurried to the scene after receiving a report from the FDA and discovered that a fire had started in one of the lab rooms. We were able to remove the four LPG cylinders that were stored in the lab. We will determine the precise cause of the fire, however it seems likely that an electrical short circuit was the cause.
