CANACONA: Fire breaks out in a closed tailors shop during lunch hour in a busy locality of Chaudi town.
The fire was initially brought under control by neighboring shops staff who noticed smoke emanating from the closed shop by using 1 Litre and 20 litre water-bottles, till fire tender reached the site after over an hour to finally bring the fire under control.
According to sources, a neighboring Sweetmart shop noticed smoke is emanating from a closed (lunch hour) Tailoring Shop at old bus-stand Chaudi at about 2.15 hours, sensing fire is raging inside the closed shop, after informing Fire and Emergency Services the shopkeepers and some locals joined to using one litre drinking water bottles, and 20 Liter water Cans to keep the fire inside the closed shop under control.
‘Yes, we noticed the smoke emanating from the closed tailor shop who had closed it and went for lunch at about 2 pm. We immediately informed FES and began to use water bottles and large Cans whatever we could lay our hands on to keep the fire rising from inside under control.’ Informed a Sweetmart shop owner.
Another sources informed it took an hour for the fire tender and Emergency service personnel to reach the site, as they had to travel from the remote Chapoli via narrow road to reach the site, and finally fire was controlled from spreading further, but not before two Sewing machines, and all the tailored clothes of Cloth of customers were burnt to ashes.
The tailor Rohidas Velip stated he had closed the shop and went for lunch, and normally returned by 2.30 pm , but was delayed since he had to drop his daughter to tution. Velip who was visibly in a shock, refused to enter his own now burnt beyond ashes shop stating he is shaken beyond words and won’t be able to see the destruction with his own eyes.
Anger grew amongst the locals for the late arrival of fire tender and emergency services personnel, solely because the FES station is shifted from the centrally located Mastimoll area to a distant and remote Chapoli connected with narrow road.
‘Todays happening in a centrally located Chaudi town is a glaring example why fire stations should be placed in a central and easily accessible location.
