PERNEM: A fire in the early hours of the morning gutted around six to seven private beach shacks at Khalchawada in Arambol, causing significant property loss. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
According to local sources, the blaze broke out in the pre-dawn hours, with the exact cause yet to be determined. However, a short circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire, which quickly spread across the closely located shacks.
Residents alerted local representatives at around 3.20 am, following which the MLA rushed to the spot within minutes. He subsequently contacted the fire department and police, and also informed the Chief Minister about the situation. Firefighters, with assistance from locals, worked to contain the flames and prevent further damage.
The fire was eventually brought under control after sustained efforts. The MLA remained present at the site until approximately 4.50 am while operations were underway.
Preliminary estimates suggest that goods and equipment worth around Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh were destroyed in the blaze. Authorities are expected to assess the losses in detail, while the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
