CANACONA: Fire engulfed Cashew plantations at Dumane-Agonda near Karmalghat in Canacona on Saturday afternoon time.
According to sources, some motorists observed smoke emanating on the side of Dumane bridge and soon fire flames began to rise through the dry grass and engulfed the cashew plantation. The fire began to rage towards Karmalghat-Highway side engulging a large tract of cashew and other plantations. Soon on intimation fire tender with Fire and Emergency Service personnel reached and began to control the raging fire from internal road of Dumane. Even as one fire tender tried to extinguish fire were proceeding to cover further area, fire was emerging from the road area where fire was earlier extinguished.
As the fire raged during to midday hot Sun, personnel with only fire-tender were racing against time to haplessly fight the fire through the rising temperature.
Till filing of this report fire through dry grass was still raging on one side, while the FES personnel were fighting with a lone fire-tender on the other side.
