MARGAO: A fire broke out at a Chinese fast food restaurant near the Shantinagar Panchayat in the early hours of Wednesday, prompting a rapid response from the Margao Fire Station that helped avert a larger disaster.
The blaze, reportedly caused by the explosion of a loaded LPG cylinder, was reported at 12:42 AM. Firefighters from Margao Fire Station quickly mobilized, arriving on-site in fire vehicle GA07-G-6101. The flames were brought under control and completely extinguished by 1:40 AM.
The incident resulted in an estimated property loss of ₹1,00,000. However, the timely and efficient efforts of the fire crew are credited with saving assets worth approximately ₹5,00,000, including a neighboring vegetable shop and other nearby commercial establishments.
In a key safety move, the crew successfully removed an empty LPG cylinder from the restaurant, preventing any further danger. After ensuring the surrounding area was secure, officials declared the site safe.
The restaurant, owned by Muhammad Mulla, will remain closed pending further inspection and restoration.
Authorities have urged all commercial kitchens to adhere strictly to fire safety norms, especially when handling LPG cylinders.
