Aldona: A fire safety drill was successfully conducted at St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Aldona, on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., aimed at creating awareness and preparedness among students, staff, and the school community for effective response during fire emergencies.
The event was jointly organised by the Moira Free Legal Aid Cell of V. M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar, in collaboration with the PTA of St. Thomas HSS, Aldona, the School Disaster Management Club, and the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, Goa.
The school’s Principal, Mrs. Angelica Fernandes, welcomed officials from the Fire Department and other dignitaries. Fire Station Officer Ganesh Govekar, along with fire personnel Vishwanath Korgaonkar, Tejas Bandekar, and Yogesh Amonkar, conducted live demonstrations on fire prevention, correct use of extinguishers, evacuation procedures, and emergency response techniques.
The drill enabled students and staff to practice safety protocols and understand the importance of swift action in fire-related emergencies. The programme was guided by Dr. Aamod Shirali, Director of the Legal Aid Society, with coordination handled by Asst. Prof. Disha Nayak Sardesai and Ms. Shahin Shaikh.
The initiative saw active participation from students, teachers, and PTA members. Organisers lauded the support and expertise of the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, highlighting the importance of such programmes in building a culture of safety and preparedness within schools.
