Panaji: In a major breakthrough, Panaji Police have arrested one person in connection with the daring dacoity that took place at Dempo Vista, Dona Paula, earlier this year.
The accused, identified as Mahmmod Ali (46), son of Yakub, a resident of Calangute and native of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody in Panaji Police Station Crime No. 73/2025, registered under Section 310(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for the April 20 dacoity.
According to police, the arrest follows extensive investigation and technical analysis carried out jointly by the District Police and Crime Branch. Investigations revealed that Mahmmod Ali had close links with the main accused and had assisted in identifying the target house and executing the crime. He also allegedly harboured the main accused before and after the offence.
Police records show that Mahmmod has a criminal history, having been earlier arrested in Vasco Police Station Crime No. 61/2023 under sections 307, 395, 397, 398, 399, 332 read with 3 & 25 of the Arms Act. He had previously served time in Colvale prison, where he came into contact with the main accused in the present case.
Mahmmod Ali was arrested on October 29 and has been remanded to five days’ police custody by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Panaji.
