Panaji: First cases of COVID19 re-infection has been reported in Goa with two Goa Medical College doctors being re-admitted for the deadly virus infection.
Goa medical College Dean Dr Shivanand bandekar informed that the cases were reported about a week ago.
“The two cases of re-infection to doctors were reported, a week ago. Both of them are stable now,” he said.
Experts says this is probably the first report of asymptomatic infection and reinfection, and it calls for better surveillance.
“As a significantly large number of people who are infected are asymptomatic, without surveillance, we would never be able to estimate the real numbers of infection. Therefore, surveillance of healthcare workers, who are at higher risk than the population, would be something really worth considering,” a senior doctor, refused to be named has said.
