New Delhi:
In a significant address ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored a remarkable milestone: for the first time since 2014, there has been no foreign interference aimed at disrupting the proceedings. This assertion came as PM Modi expressed his confidence in the upcoming Budget driving India’s ambitious goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
PM Modi began his remarks by paying respects to Ma Laxmi, the Goddess of prosperity, symbolizing his hopes for the well-being of the poor and middle-class citizens. He emphasized that this Budget Session will be pivotal in infusing new confidence and energy into India’s economic trajectory, aligning with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by the time the country celebrates 100 years of independence.
PM Modi’s address to the media marked a notable departure from previous years, as he highlighted that this is the first Parliament Session since 2014 where no foreign forces have attempted to ignite discord. He observed that, in the past, there were consistent attempts from abroad to create unrest before key Parliamentary sessions, but this time, such interference was absent.
The Prime Minister reiterated that innovation, inclusion, and investment are the cornerstone of India’s economic activity roadmap. He expressed faith that the collective efforts of 140 crore Indians will be instrumental in achieving the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. PM Modi also noted that the young generation of today, aged 20-25, will be the primary beneficiaries of this vision and will be at the helm of policymaking by the time they reach 50.
The Budget Session, which commenced on January 31, 2025, is part of the third term of the Modi government and marks the first full Budget of this term. The session is divided into two phases, running from January 31 to February 13 and then from March 10 to April 4. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget 2025 on February 1, a presentation that will be her eighth consecutive budget, a record in itself.
The session will see the introduction of several key bills, including the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024. These legislative actions are aimed at strengthening various sectors and enhancing the overall efficiency of the country’s systems. The focus on public capital expenditure, employment creation, and economic consumption stimulation was also emphasized during pre-Budget consultations with industry representatives.
