PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant announced that the government would soon launch a Bachelor of Science program in Fisheries Science at Goa University, taking into account the industry’s possibilities in light of the growing “blue economy.”
“We will be offering a Bachelor of Veterinary Science course at Goa University starting in the upcoming academic year.” In order to enable students to capitalize on the expanding Blue Economy in the nation, we will shortly be offering Bachelor of Fisheries courses,” he stated.
Sawant noted that Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapith (Dapoli, Maharashtra) now has two seats designated for BSc in Fisheries. He stated, “We will introduce this course at Goa University because we want more students to opt for it.”
According to the chief minister, “the introduction and advancement of new technologies in the fishing industry has made it a profitable business.”
According to Sawant, Goa’s import and export industry generates an annual revenue of Rs 1,000 crore.
He suggested that young people and students might investigate several sectors of the fishing industry.
Meanwhile, Sawant said that Fisheries business in state should remaining with the locals.
