Team Goemkarponn
Panaji: The Directorate of Fisheries, Government of Goa, has invited quotations for hiring fishing canoes on an hourly basis to strengthen coastal patrolling and prevent illegal fishing activities along the State’s shoreline.
According to the Directorate, the hired canoes will be deployed at five identified coastal locations — Arambol and Calangute in North Goa, and Benaulim, Baina and Talpona in South Goa. The initiative is aimed at enabling quick response and improved surveillance in nearshore areas where incidents of illegal fishing are frequently reported.
The Fisheries Department stated that hiring locally operated fishing canoes will allow for rapid deployment of patrolling teams, facilitating timely interception of offending vessels operating close to the coast.
The quotations are being invited as per prescribed terms and conditions laid down by the Department. Interested fishermen or owners of eligible fishing canoes have been asked to submit their sealed quotations to the Directorate of Fisheries within the stipulated deadline.
Further details regarding eligibility criteria, technical specifications of the canoes, manpower requirements and other conditions are available with the Department, officials said.
