Arambol: Mandrem Police have registered a case and arrested multiple individuals following an assault on a local fisherman at Arambol Beach on the evening of 3 June.
According to police, a complaint was lodged by Lawrence Fernandes (40), a resident of Khalchawada, Arambol, who alleged that he was abused and physically assaulted near the Lotus Sutra Hotel at around 6:00 PM. The altercation reportedly began when Fernandes requested a group of men sitting near a canoe to move aside so he could push it into the shade.
The accused allegedly responded with verbal abuse and then physically attacked Fernandes with slaps, fist blows, and a hard object, inflicting visible injuries. They also allegedly issued threats to kill him.
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at 01:19 hrs on 4 June under Mandrem Police Station Crime No. 58/2025, invoking Sections 352, 118(1), 351(3) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Two accused —
1. Saurabh Sudhakar Walekar (24), resident of Limbe Jalgaon, Gangapur, Aurangabad, and
2. Sagar Ramkrishna Zalke (25), resident of Jikthan, Gangapur, Aurangabad —were arrested shortly after at 01:23 hrs on 4 June.
Subsequently, the absconding co-accused were traced to Kolhapur, Maharashtra, and taken into custody. They have been identified as:
* Krishnat Vasantrao Waigade,
* Rajendra Ramchandra Rawal, resident of Hupari,
* Krishnath Daulatrao Waingade, resident of Mahaveer Nagar, Hupari, and
* Shivanad Arvind Bhandari, resident of Vetal Chauk, Upari.
Police have also seized the vehicle reportedly involved in the crime. Further investigation is underway.
