PANAJI: A fisherman drowned in the Mandovi River while fishing on Sunday night.
Police said they received a call around 10:54 pm from the owner of a fishing trawler, informing that one of his labourers had fallen into the river during fishing operations. The victim was later pulled out by fellow workers and brought to Malim Jetty on the same trawler.
The deceased was identified as Gangadhar Behera, son of Narayan Behera, a native of Arakhakuda, Bramagiri, Puri, Odisha, and residing at Malim Jetty. He was employed as a labourer on the trawler.
The body was shifted to GMC, Bambolim, for preservation and further legal formalities. PSI Arun Shirodkar is conducting the investigation.
