A tragic incident unfolded near Goa Shipyard at Vaddem, Vasco, after the body of a fisherman was found washed ashore. The deceased has been identified as Efrem Topno, a resident of Kharewada, Vasco and a native of Jharkhand.
According to Vasco Police, the incident came to light after they received a phone call from an unknown caller alerting them about a body floating in the sea near the shipyard. Upon reaching the spot, authorities confirmed that the body had drifted ashore.
Initial enquiries revealed that Topno was employed as a labourer on a fishing trawler owned by Oswin Joe Barreto, a resident of Baina, Vasco. Police said that the deceased had accidentally fallen into the sea while the crew was out in deep waters for fishing.
An inquest panchanama was conducted at the site, and the body has been sent to the District Hospital in Margao for medico-legal formalities.
Vasco Police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Prisly Carvalho under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
