VASCO: All Goa Fishing Boat Owners Association president Jose Philip D’Souza demands immediate repair work of the Khariwado Vasco fishing jetty.
Fishing boats are damaged due to the bad condition of the existing jetty, says D’souza.
In a press conference held at Khariwado Vasco, the All Goa Fishing Boat Owners Association president Jose Philip D’Souza pointed out that there is some sort of politics ongoing with regards to the repair and renovation of the existing fishing jetty at Khariwado Vasco.
He said various fishing jetties across Goa to name a few, Betul, Cutbona, Panaji etc have been renovated recently. But why Khariwado fishing jetty is being neglected despite the fact that we have taken NOC from the MPT for the renovation of the fishing jetty? Dsouza questioned.
D’Souza said that due to the pathetic condition of this Khariwado fishing jetty, the boats are receiving damage whenever it comes with the fish catch. Once the boats are damaged then the repair work of the boat takes away our chunk of the loan amount which we take for doing business.
He said many Goan fishermen boat owners were forced to sell their boats due to the losses they incurred because of the damages their boats received from operating at this jetty.
D’Souza further demanded that the state government should immediately consider their association’s demands about the fishing jetty at Baina and should give them some relief.
