The Calangute police last night arrested five persons, who were later bailed out, while allegedly accepting bets for Indian Premier League (IPL) matches.
As per statement issued by Calangute police, five accused persons namely Raju Singh, aged 25 years r/o Rajasthan, Mohit Kumar, aged 21 years r/o Rajasthan, Ravi Mamtani, aged 30 years r/o Rajasthan, Suraj Soni, aged 28 years r/o Nepal and Sagar Singh Rathore r/o Rajasthan while involved in IPL betting.
Cash amount of Rs 95,000 , 9 mobile phones, 2 Laptops were seized by the police during the raid.
The raid was conducted acting upon prior and specific information by the team headed by PI Nolasco Raposo, in a villa at Candolim last night.
The accused persons were subsequently arrested in the criminal case under section 3 and 4 of the Goa Public Gambling Act.
The accused persons were subsequently released on bail after furnishing sureties to the tune of Rs 10,000 each.
Further investigation is carried out by PSI Viraj Naik under the supervision of PI Nolasco Raposo and overall supervision of SDPO Porvorim Shri Edwin Colaco and SP North Shri Utkrisht Prasoon.
