Calangute: Calangute Police have arrested five individuals from West Bengal for operating a bogus call centre in Sauntawado-Baga and defrauding foreign nationals. The raid took place on Thursday evening between 7:20 PM and 8:00 PM, during which the suspects were caught red-handed while impersonating tech support agents for overseas customers.
According to police, the accused contacted foreign citizens via the app ‘portSIP UC’, posing as computer service providers. They lured victims into paying service fees using various gift cards, under the false promise of offering technical assistance. These gift cards were then fraudulently used for the personal benefit of the accused.
The arrested have been identified as Abhishek Puri (27), Md. Farid Habibullah (28), SK Amir Alam (38), Guddu Shaw (29), and Ajoygir Giri (19), all residents of West Bengal.
A case has been registered under Sections 11(2)(b), 319(2), and 318(4) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 66D of the Information Technology Act. Police investigations are ongoing to uncover further leads in the case.
