New Delhi:Delhi Police on Monday arrested five Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly attempting to forcibly enter the Red Fort premises. All five individuals are suspected to be illegal immigrants and are currently under interrogation, officials said.
According to the police, the accused are aged between 20 and 25 years and were working as labourers in various parts of Delhi. During preliminary checks, law enforcement officials recovered Bangladeshi identity documents from their possession, further confirming their foreign origin.
“They tried to force their way into the Red Fort. All of them are illegal immigrants. Bangladeshi documents have been recovered, and they are being questioned to determine their intent and possible links,” Delhi Police stated.
This arrest comes amid a larger crackdown on undocumented immigrants across the National Capital Region.
In a related development, Gurugram Police on Saturday detained 10 Bangladeshi nationals for illegally residing in the city. The group was found without valid documentation or permits, according to a statement issued by police officials.
Sandeep Kumar, Public Relations Officer of Gurugram Police, confirmed the operation and said, “Ten illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have been detained. Identification documents from Bangladesh have been recovered, and the deportation process has been initiated.”
The attempted breach at the historic Red Fort — a high-security zone and a national heritage site — has raised concerns about security lapses and the ease with which illegal immigrants are managing to enter and stay in the country.
The Delhi Police, along with intelligence and immigration authorities, are now probing the motives behind the Red Fort incident, whether it was an isolated act or part of a broader network of undocumented migrants operating in and around the capital
