MAPUSA: Mapusa Police have registered a cheating case against five individuals accused of duping a Mumbai-based company of ₹8 crore in a fraudulent land deal involving a 2,400-square-metre plot in Candolim.
According to the complaint lodged by Mumbai resident Neetan Chhatwal, the accused — Oscar Vaz and Zita Vaz from Candolim, Laura Vaz D’Sa and Peter D’Sa from Mapusa, and Aloysius Pinto from Mumbai — had allegedly posed as rightful owners of the property and expressed their intent to sell it to Chhatwal’s company.
Believing their claims, the company entered into a sale transaction worth ₹8 crore for the Candolim land. However, it was later discovered that the same property had already been sold to another party, prompting the complainant to approach the police.
Following the complaint, Mapusa Police registered an FIR against the five accused for cheating and criminal conspiracy. The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar.
