VALPOI: Valpoi Police have booked five persons for illegal extraction of river sand from the bank of River Kudshe at Sattari on Wednesday evening.
The case was registered at 9.15 pm on December 11 based on a state complaint filed by Police Constable Sarvesh Pawar (39), PC-B No. 6325, attached to Valpoi Police Station. According to police, the incident occurred at around 6.15 pm at the riverbank in Kudshe, Sattari.
The accused have been identified as Ankush Gaonkar, son of Laxman Gaonkar, resident of Gaonkarwada, Kudshe, Sattari; Bairangi Sanju Kumar (21), Brinchi Sanju Mahato (26), Niro Aklunisad Kumar (20), and Kisar Phulchandra Kisal (20), all natives of Bihar and currently residing at Panchewada, Kudshe, Sattari, at the residence of Rama Aroskar.
Police said the accused were found red-handed extracting river sand without permission from the concerned authorities, thereby committing theft of minor minerals.
Further investigation is in progress and is being conducted by PSI Sohan Malik of Valpoi Police Station.
