PANAJI: Minister for Water Resources Subhash Shirodkar informed that under Phase III, flood control embankments, ground water recharge structures will be taken up at River Sal.
“Under Phase III, flood control embankments, ground water recharge structures will be taken up. The Sal river was classified as Category III river i.e. most polluted river having BOD between 10-20mg/litre by the NGT court,” said Shirodkar
He further said a task force is formed under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary wherein all the concern departments were members. 2. A plan has been worked out by the Water Resource Department for improving the hydraulics, water quality, ground water recharge, flood control etc. for the river stretch from Verna up to Kharebandh bridge at a cost of Rs. 72.49 cr.
“The first phase of Desilting of the river from near district hospital to Kharebandh has been taken up,” he added
Minister said that rhe phase II of the project a) side bank protection, construction of bandharas for storage of water and installing of aerators and desiltingetc are being envisaged to be implemented in this financial year. b) Improvement of the Saipem lake at Navelim which feeds the Sal river.
“As per the plan of action the first phase of desilting of river for a distance of 8.5 kms from whole sale fish market, opposite district hospital to Kharebandh bridge has been taken up in the year 2019 at a cost of Rs. 16.81 Cr and stands completed .The said stretch is under monitoring and maintenance period by the agency,” he informed
Shirodkar said that desilting of river from ch. 0.0km to ch 9.4km and construction of bandharas, side protection walls and fixing of floating aerators has been tenderedat the cost of Rs.20 Crore.
