VASCO: MLA Krishna Salkar strongly condemned the actions of the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA), asserting that the flyover and the entry and exit ramps at Baina were constructed for public use and will remain accessible to the people. Salkar stated that MPA would not be allowed to block these vital public routes.
“We condemn the act of MPA, which is entirely wrong. An MPA official also behaved rudely and arrogantly with the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson, the first citizen of the city. This behavior is unacceptable. MPA must respect the Chairperson’s position, and if they fail to show respect, they should not expect respect in return,” said Salkar.
Salkar revealed that he had raised concerns during the inauguration ceremony with Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant about the possibility of MPA closing the gates. However, he did not anticipate such a move or the arrogance displayed by MPA officials.
“We are committed to ensuring that the flyover and ramps in Vasco and Baina remain open for public use. The government has invested significant funds in this infrastructure for the benefit of the people, not for any private party. We will do everything in our power to ensure that it serves the public,” he assured.
Salkar further disclosed that he had spoken to both MPA Chairman and CM Dr. Pramod Sawant about the issue. “The CM has invited me for a meeting, and we will resolve this matter within two days. I want to assure the people of Vasco that their needs will be prioritized, and the flyover will remain open to all.”
He reiterated the government’s commitment to public welfare and emphasized that the ramps and flyover were built for the convenience and benefit of the citizens, not for private interests.
