MARGAO: Social worker Chirag Naik visited the South Goa Welfare Trust for Animals to donate food supplies and extend support to the shelter staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to care for abandoned and rescued dogs and other animals.
During the visit, Naik donated essential items including bags of rice grains, biscuits, dog food and other daily necessities. He said such contributions help reduce the financial burden on shelters and allow them to focus more on medical care, treatment and rehabilitation of rescued animals.
Appreciating the dedication of the shelter team, Naik said that caring for abandoned and injured animals requires constant effort, compassion and resources. He emphasized that dogs are not just animals, but loyal companions who deserve love, protection and a safe home.
“Supplies like rice, biscuits and dog food may seem small, but they go a long way in supporting shelters that struggle with rising expenses. The staff and volunteers here are doing commendable work in providing care and rehabilitation to rescued animals,” said Chirag Naik.
He further appealed to the government to extend greater financial assistance, medical support and infrastructure facilities to animal shelters across the state. Naik also called for stronger policies promoting animal welfare, vaccination drives and adoption programmes.
“I sincerely urge the government to introduce policies that strengthen animal welfare initiatives and ensure regular vaccination and adoption drives. At the same time, I appeal to citizens to step forward — donate food, volunteer time and spread awareness. Small acts of kindness, when done collectively, create a big impact,” he added.
Naik encouraged the public to actively participate in supporting shelters and to consider adopting rescued animals, stressing that community involvement is key to ensuring a safer and more compassionate environment for animals.
