BENAULIM: The body of an unidentified foreign national was recovered from the sea at Benaulim beach on Monday evening, prompting an investigation by Colva police.
According to police, at around 6 pm on January 12, Tourist Unit Police staff from Benaulim informed authorities about a body floating in the sea. Police rushed to the spot near the Blue Corner Beach Hut and Restaurant at Benaulim Beach, where a male person, believed to be a foreign national aged between 50 and 60 years, was found lying on the seashore.
Enquiries revealed that the man was first noticed floating in the seawater and was fished out by lifeguard staff with the help of members of the public. He was then shifted by 108 ambulance services to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The body has been preserved at SGDH Margao for further medico-legal formalities to establish the exact cause of death and identity of the deceased.
Further enquiry in the matter is being conducted by PSI Prashant Bhagat of Colva Police Station.
