ANJUNA: In a major breakthrough, the Anjuna Police Station conducted a narcotics raid at Sonarkhed in Assagao, Bardez, leading to the arrest of a foreign national involved in illegal drug possession.
The accused has been identified as Sokratis Michailidis (59), a Greek national currently residing in Badem, Assagao. During the operation, police recovered 2.271 kg of charas valued at approximately ₹22.71 lakh and 10.77 grams of ecstasy worth around ₹1.10 lakh, taking the total seizure to ₹23.81 lakh. The contraband was seized under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
The raid was carried out by a police team led by PI Suraj H. Gawas, along with PSI Viraj V. Naik and other staff members. Acting on credible intelligence, the team executed a well-coordinated operation, successfully apprehending the accused and seizing narcotic substances along with other incriminating materials.
Police officials stated that the arrest marks a significant step in curbing international drug trafficking in the region. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the wider network and possible links associated with the accused.
The operation was conducted under the overall supervision of SDPO Mapusa Wilson C. D’Souza and SP (North) Harishchandra Madkaikar.
