PORVORIM: Daily wage workers from the Forest Department called on the government to address their predicament and demanded a pay increase.
They said that despite working for the past 18 years, they still face job insecurity and lack basic benefits like insurance, paid leave, and travel allowances.
The workers recently met with Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas to argue for their requests after becoming frustrated by unmet promises.
They said that the administration ignored their welfare in favor of political gains.
Emphasizing the discrepancy between pre-election pledges and post-election measures, they emphasized that their earlier worries had not been addressed.
The workers have called for temporary positions to protect their rights and enhance their standard of living in order to protect their future. They called on authorities to act immediately to resolve their long-standing complaints.
Viegas chastised the State government for making hollow promises and ignoring the requests of these workers. He promised to bring up their concern with the Forest Department as well as the Assembly.
