PANAJI: Former AAP State convener Elvis Gomes today joined the Congress party today in the presence of senior party leaders CLP leader Digambar Kamat and GPCC president Girish Chodankar.
Soon after his induction, Gomes said that he had taken the decision to join the Congress party after much deliberation.
“I have joined the Congress today. Joining the Congress was not a one nights decision. I have not taken this decision hastly. Congress has this reach from Pernem to Canacona and that is the reason I have joined the Congress,” said Elvis
He further said that the defection of 10 MLA’s from the Congress to the BJP has left a devastating impact on the people.
“People have been back stabbed by defection,” he said
Elvis, a former bureaucrat had resigned from Goa administration in October 2016 to take over as AAP’s state convener.
He had contested the 2017 assembly polls from Cuncolim and was projected as AAP’s chief ministerial candidate.
It may be recalled that Elvis had been with the AAP for a very long time and he had even sacrificed his topmost position in the government services in order to join the politics. Reportedly, a few days back, Congress high command had cleared all the decks for his entry into the party. He has also hinted at joining Congress.
