Vasco: Based on a complaint filed by Abdul Khan, Trustee of Madina Masjid Trust, Vasco, police have registered a case alleging misappropriation of masjid funds by a former trustee.
According to the complaint, the incident took place between November 2017 and December 2017 at Vasco. The accused, identified as Shaikh Moosa Hussain alias Maksood Shaik, a resident of Baina, Vasco, was serving as a trustee and treasurer of Jamat Ul Muslimin Madina Masjid from 1994 till February 2019 and was the custodian of a fixed deposit of ₹2,97,000 held with Indian Overseas Bank.
It is alleged that the accused fraudulently transferred the fixed deposit amount into the current account of Madina Masjid at Indian Overseas Bank, which was opened by him. Thereafter, while acting as the authorised signatory, he allegedly withdrew a total amount of ₹3,09,381, including interest, and utilised the same for his personal use.
The complaint states that by doing so, the accused misappropriated masjid funds to the tune of ₹3,09,381. Police have taken cognisance of the complaint and further investigation is underway.
