MORJIM: A criminal case has been registered against the former president and members of the managing committee of Shree Devi Morjai Devasthan, Morjim, for alleged misappropriation and criminal breach of trust involving valuable temple property and records.
The FIR was lodged on June 19 at 9:25 PM at Mandrem Police Station, based on a complaint by Shri Ramnath Shetgaonkar, the current President of Shree Devi Morjai Devasthan and its affiliates. According to the complaint, between March 31, 2025, and the present date, the accused — including former president Gopal Ganesh Shetgaonkar and other committee members who held office until March 23, 2025 — dishonestly used and misappropriated items entrusted to them during their tenure.
The misappropriated items reportedly include the temple’s official letterhead and seal, book of deliberations, catalogue of Mazania (Mahajans), receipt books, bank passbooks, chequebooks, keys to the temple premises and fund chest (Petty cash box), as well as priceless temple jewellery, property documents, and litigation records.
Police have booked the accused under relevant provisions of criminal breach of trust. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Laximan Dessai of Mandrem Police Station.
