Panaji: Today, the Foundation Day of West Bengal was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Raj Bhavan. The event was graced by the presence of Shri M.R.M.Rao, IAS, Secretary to the Governor and Shri Sanjeev Gauns Dessai, Additional Secretary to the Governor.
The celebration also brought together members of the Bengali community, reflecting the cultural diversity and unity of the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, M.R. Rao extended heartfelt greetings on behalf of Governor Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai to all Bengali communities, both in Goa and in West Bengal. He praised the State’s vibrant history and its significant role in India’s independence movement.
M.R. Rao highlighted the profound impact of West Bengal on Indian culture, cuisine, literature, and drama. He paid tribute to the contributions of eminent personalities like Swami Vivekananda and Subhash Chandra Bose, whose legacies continue to inspire. Rao also noted the prominence of Bengali literature, which has set a benchmark in the literary world. He proudly mentioned that Bengali is the fifth most spoken language globally, underscoring its widespread influence and cultural significance.
The celebration included a message from the Governor of West Bengal, which was shared with the attendees, adding to the significance of the occasion. Shri Saurabh Ghosh spoke passionately about the rich cultural heritage of West Bengal. The event also featured a soulful rendition of a Bengali song by Smt. Trupti Das, reflects the deep musical roots of the State.
