CANACONA- In his maiden visit (after occupying the CMs for the second time) to the Taluka after taking charge of Chief Minister-ship in the new term, CM Dr Pramod Sawant conducted Bhumi-Pujan of foundation stone for the construction of a New School Block of Shri Mallikarjun Vidhyalaya Char-rasta, on Saturday.
Chief Minister was accorded a warm welcome with the women performing Arti and floral /garlanding and welcome song on his first visit to the taluka after he assumed the chief minister chair in his second instinct at the entrance of Centro Promotor Instrucao (CPI), Char-rasta.
Chief Minister, along with CPI Chairman Shamba Dessai and others, proceeded into the Dug-out (Pit) and performed Bhumi-Pujan of the foundation stone.
CPI, which runs a Primary School, High School and a Higher Secondary school(Science) as part of its expansion plan, is constructing a New Block to accommodate three Class-Rooms at the cost of about 60 lakhs.
The Chief Minister also agreed to examine a proposal to start vocational streams after the management requested a government accord for commencing vocational Streams in its HSS section.
Interestingly, stating CPI is in its 99th year and entering the hundredth year on 2nd October this year, CPI General Body Chairman Rajendra Dessai informed efforts to construct and commission the new School block on time. ‘We got the support from the government and our benefactors to expand our century-old institute by adding more classrooms ‘, said Dessai.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant started his visit to the taluka is purely private said, “My visit to Canacona is purely private in nature after Goa Assembly speaker Ramesh Tawadkar fixed some no- official programs today including the foundation stone of Shri Mallikarjun Vidhyalaya, besides under the BJP party’s Seva Salkap program construction of two houses and to meet the BJP Karyakarta’s I had come to Canacona today”.
Chief Minister also signed the visitors’ book of CPI before he proceeded and laid foundation stones to construct two houses at Ziltawadi (Gaondongrim) and Baddem(Khotigao) for the family of Late Somnath Mirashi and Kamalakar Gaonkar, respectively. The new dwellings for these two families are built through the contributions of BJP workers as part of the Party’s Seva Salkap program.
Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, CMC Chairperson Simon Rebello, most of the ruling Councillors were present at Char-Rasta.
