Betul: Tension erupted at Sunset Point near Parul University, Canaginium, on Saturday evening when a group of men allegedly attacked two constables of Cuncolim Police Station with stones, fists and kicks, leaving one of them seriously injured.
Police said constables Sairaj Naik and Anup Kavrekar were on duty around 4 pm when the accused — identified as Jebiyar Dung Dung of Varca (native of Jharkhand), Suresh Hariya, Rahul Kisan and Amit Lohra (all from Betul, natives of Jharkhand) — along with two unidentified persons, formed an unlawful assembly and pelted stones at them.
Constable Kavrekar sustained head and body injuries in the assault, while Naik was also beaten. Police said the attack amounted to an attempt to murder the constables while performing their lawful duty.
All four named accused have been arrested, while efforts are on to trace the two absconding attackers. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Kishor Velip of Cuncolim Police Station.
