PANAJI: The Goa government has reported a total of four cases related to alleged illegal religious conversions or attempts over the past five years, according to information tabled in the Legislative Assembly.
In a written reply to an unstarred question by MLA Carlos Ferreira, Chief Minister and Home Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant stated that no such cases were registered in 2021, 2024, and 2025. However, two cases each were recorded in 2022 and 2023.
The government placed the data before the House, indicating that instances of alleged forced or unlawful religious conversions have remained minimal in the state during this period.
Further details, including information on FIRs, accused persons, and the status of the cases, have been provided in an annexure submitted along with the reply.
The disclosure comes amid periodic debates on religious conversion, with the government placing on record official figures reflecting the situation in Goa.
