CHINCHINIM: Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda sealed their spot in the finals of the Cipriano Silva Memorial Football Tournament after edging past Arlem Youth Association 4-2 in a tense tiebreaker at the Chinchinim Church ground. The tournament is being organised by Ambelim SC.
In a tightly contested semifinal, both teams played out a goalless draw in regulation time, forcing the outcome to be decided via penalties.
During the tiebreaker, Xavier Afonso, Melson Fernandes, Jesvan Fernandes, and Selton Fernandes kept their nerves and converted their spot-kicks for Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda. In contrast, only Luan Dias and Velroy Borges managed to score for Arlem YA, as they bowed out of the competition.
Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda will now clash with hosts Ambelim SC in the grand finale, scheduled to be held on July 12, 2025.
After the match, Ravil, the goalkeeper of Fr Agnelo Paroda, was awarded the Man of the Match for his crucial saves during the tiebreaker. The award was presented by Mr. John Viegas, former Executive Engineer of the Electricity Department, in the presence of Benjamin and Jacinto D Silva.
