Panaji: In a thrilling matchup at the Government School ground in Cuncolim, Fr Agnelo YSC, Paroda, clinched a decisive 2-0 win over Dramapur Sports Club, advancing to the quarterfinals of the Vaidya Family Memorial Cup. This tournament, organized by Cuncolim Union, has seen outstanding performances from various teams, and this match was no exception. Despite the loss, Dramapur SC’s goalkeeper, Glen Leitao, stood out with his exceptional skills and was awarded the Man of the Match.
The match, held on Thursday, was a testament to the competitive spirit of both teams. Fr Agnelo YSC, Paroda, dominated the second half, scoring both goals that sealed their victory. Selton Fernandes opened the scoring in the 36th minute, assisted by Sowell Fernandes. The second goal came in the 59th minute, with Sowell Fernandes netting the ball following a pass from Joel Furtado.
Dramapur SC’s goalkeeper, Glen Leitao, was a highlight of the game, making three crucial one-on-one saves that kept his team in contention. His performance earned him the Man of the Match award, presented by Mario Coutinho of Cuncolim Union. Despite Leitao’s heroics, Fr Agnelo YSC’s consistent pressure and strategic play ensured their advancement to the quarterfinals.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Fr Agnelo YSC, Paroda, as they move forward in the tournament, which is held in memory of the Vaidya Brothers. The Vaidya Family Memorial Cup continues to showcase the best of Goan football, with top teams competing for the coveted title and cash prizes.
