Raia: Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda advanced to the quarterfinals of the 52nd Custodio Memorial Football Tournament with an emphatic 4–2 victory over United Club of Verna at the Raia Panchayat Ground. The tournament is being hosted by Raia Sporting Club.
The match kicked off with high intensity as both sides tested each other early. In the 6th minute, Fr Agnelo’s Godwin Fernandes had a fierce shot blocked by the Verna goalkeeper. United Club of Verna responded swiftly, but Josle Fernandes was denied by Paroda’s alert keeper.
The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Jesvan Fernandes opened the scoring for Paroda with a superb glancing header. Verna responded almost immediately, with Roven Rego equalising in the 25th minute following a slick attacking move.
Paroda bounced back quickly, reclaiming the lead in the 30th minute through Melson Fernandes, who delivered a cleverly executed free kick that beat the Verna defence. Likson Rebello then made it 3–1 in the 38th minute, calmly finishing a flowing team move.
Just before half-time, Salvin Fernandes punished a defensive error in the 41st minute to put Paroda firmly in control with a 4–1 advantage. Verna pulled one back through Sheldon Pereira in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to stop Paroda’s march forward.
Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda dominated the midfield battle throughout the game, showcasing their all-round strength and tactical discipline.
Cynthia Fernandes, Deputy Sarpanch of the Village Panchayat Raia, presented the Man of the Match award to Ravil Fernandes of Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda for his outstanding performance.
