Panaji: Elections for the post of President of the Dalgado Konknni Akademi were conducted on February 22 in accordance with the Akademi’s constitution. Adv. Pritam Lotlikar, who served as the presiding officer, announced the election of Fr Myron Jeson Barreto as President.
Along with the President, six members were elected to the working committee. The newly elected members are Anthony Fernandes (Anthony San), Agnelo Luzerio Fernandes (Agnelo Borim), Wilfred Eusebio Goes (Willy Goes), Fr Luis Xavier Gomes, Sonia Gomes, and Vassalo Carvalho. All seven members took the oath of office on the same day following the declaration of results.
Fr Myron Jeson Barreto, a priest of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman hailing from Sadolxem in Canacona, was ordained in 2017. He holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism and is involved in several pastoral responsibilities, including serving as Chaplain of St Lawrence Chapel at Arossim-Cansaulim.
An active contributor to Konkani literature, Fr Barreto has authored 12 literary works in Konkani along with 25 religious publications. He is also associated with editing various publications and regularly contributes articles to journals and broadcast media. Among his recognitions is the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar (2022).
Apart from his literary and pastoral work, he is also engaged in printing and publishing activities through New Age Printers in Verna.
