MAPUSA: Anjuna Police arrested a 43-year-old French national after allegedly finding her in possession of magic mushrooms and mushroom-infused chocolates collectively valued at ₹25.15 lakh during a late-night narcotics raid in Siolim.
Police said the raid was carried out on March 26 between 8.35 pm and 11.20 pm near the crematorium at Aradi, Oxel, Siolim, Bardez, following specific and reliable information. The accused, identified as Gaelle Louise Daniele Pavillon, currently residing at Tropical Dreams, Gublo Waddo, Oxel, Siolim, was intercepted during the operation.
During the search, officers recovered 136 grams of brown and off-white dried magic mushrooms suspected to contain psilocybin, estimated to be worth ₹3.15 lakh. In addition, police seized 37 transparent packets containing dark brown “magic mushroom chocolates” suspected to contain psilocybin, weighing a total of 1.811 kg and valued at approximately ₹22 lakh.
The contraband, collectively valued at ₹25.15 lakh, was allegedly found inside a yellow Yamaha Fascino scooter bearing registration number GA-03-AU-6720, which was in the possession of the accused.
Based on a complaint filed by LPSI Leesha Garudi on behalf of the State, Anjuna Police registered Crime No. 21/2026 under Section 22(c) of the NDPS Act. The accused was placed under arrest in the early hours of March 27.
She was subsequently produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa, who remanded her to five days of police custody.
Further investigation is being conducted by LPSI Leesha Garudi of Anjuna Police Station under the guidance of PI Suraj H. Gawas, with supervision from SDPO Mapusa Wilson D’Souza and SP North Harishchandra Madkaikar.
