Panaji: The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is being implemented in a phased manner across Goa and is expected to be fully rolled out at all school levels by 2028, Chief Minister and Education Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant informed the Goa Legislative Assembly.
Responding to a starred question tabled by MLA Nilesh Cabral, the Chief Minister stated that NEP 2020 is already in effect in all non-technical undergraduate institutions in the state. At the school level, the new academic structure has been introduced progressively since 2023, starting with Baalvatika 1 under the Foundational Stage. In the current academic year (2024–25), Baalvatika 2 and Grade 9 have been brought under the NEP framework. The rollout will expand further in 2025–26 to include Baalvatika 3, Grade 3 (Preparatory Stage), Grade 6 (Middle Stage), and Grade 10 (Secondary Stage).
To align the school education system with the new policy, the government has launched block-level training programmes for teachers focusing on orientation to NEP 2020, textbook transaction strategies, and rubric-based assessments. These capacity-building efforts aim to foster holistic and competency-based learning.
In addition, curriculum revisions have been carried out in accordance with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023 in all grades where NEP has been implemented. The changes reflect the core principles of NEP 2020, including conceptual understanding, formative assessment, and learner-centric education.
Dr. Sawant affirmed that the state government remains committed to a structured and comprehensive adoption of NEP 2020 across all levels of school and higher education, with implementation milestones mapped out up to the year 2028.
