New Delhi: In a move to revamp the Indian men’s cricket team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to make significant changes to both the central contracts and the support staff. This overhaul comes amidst discussions between BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, scheduled for later this week in Guwahati. The meeting will coincide with an IPL 2025 match between the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. Unlike previous years when central contracts were announced before the IPL season, this year’s delay is attributed to Gambhir’s unavailability for discussions due to personal reasons.
The BCCI is contemplating major changes in the central contracts, which could impact the futures of several senior players. The current uncertainty among BCCI decision-makers about key player roles will be a focal point during the upcoming meeting. This gathering will provide clarity on what lies ahead for top Indian stars in international cricket.
In addition to central contract reforms, the BCCI is also eyeing changes within the team’s support staff. While Morne Morkel (bowling coach) and Gautam Gambhir (head coach) are expected to remain part of the setup, T Dilip (fielding coach), who has been with the team for over three years, might face uncertainty. The BCCI plans to downsize the staff while introducing new faces, aiming for a more efficient and streamlined support structure.
